Floatation Therapy is a widely recognised alternative treatment for many conditions and ailments. Extensive research has indicated the benefits floatation brings to physical, mental and general wellbeing. The spacious tank is filled with 360 kilograms of Epsom salt which is dissolved in approximately 30 centimetres of skin temperature water. The process of floatation aims to remove sources of discomfort and stress through depriving the senses of external stimulation. The real benefits come from the sensory deprivation, so having the space all to yourself to let go and relax in peace is essential. At our studio we offer individual floatation, but we have multiple tanks available so you can still share the experience with someone while still reaping the benefits for yourself.

To experience the full potential that floatation has to offer, we recommend floating regularly, as the benefits will be cumulative.

Why float?

The magnesium rich solution is the magic behind the weightlessness. Our body naturally responds to this environment by accelerating physical recovery and performance, and alleviating the symptoms of both acute and chronic pain.

Floatation decreases stress hormones, replenishes neurotransmitters, and releases endorphins. The unique environment encourages deep relaxation and provides a zen-like afterglow that can last for days.

The importance of Magnesium -

Magnesium is an essential mineral required for a range of biochemical activities in the human body. These include protein production, muscle and nerve function, blood glucose control and bone development.
A floatation tank is filled with a solution that is rich with Epsom salt, otherwise known as Magnesium Sulfate.

During a session in the floatation tank, the skin absorbs large amounts of magnesium which is delivered to the muscles and into the bloodstream. This process greatly improves the amount of available magnesium within the body.

Insomnia is a common symptom of magnesium deficiency, so floatation allows you to safely cultivate healthy patterns of sleep through the regulation of melatonin levels in the body. Some of our clients even report ceasing the use of synthetic and sometimes harmful medications after finding floatation.

Additionally, magnesium interferes with pain receptors in the brain, reducing symptoms of headaches and fatigue as a result.

Who can benefit from floatation?

Athletes utilise floatation to optimize performance and heal their worn out and wounded bodies. Yogis and meditators often find enhanced states of peace, while artists find creative inspiration. Anyone struggling to find balance in their work or home life. The answer is everyone can benefit from floatation! Unplug from the busy world around, decrease life stresses, increase focus and boost your sense of wellbeing - there’s nothing to lose and so much to gain!

Floating for pregnancy…

Using floatation therapy throughout pregnancy provides a safe and effective way for women to alleviate the physical demands on their body. The water is maintained at a constant skin temperature (34.5 degrees Celcius) and will not cause the body’s core temperature to rise over the course of a session. The magnesium rich solution will assist in reducing inflammation, relax the muscles, and elicit a feeling of weightlessness that will relieve the spine and ease back pain. Floatation is also known to help other common conditions that women may experience in the later stages of pregnancy; including insomnia, depression and anxiety by decreasing cortisol levels and enhancing the production of endorphins. After a session, women often report feeling a stronger bond with their babies, evoked by the intimate environment and the quality time spent in solitude together. Women in all stages of pregnancy are welcome to float after seeking advice from their healthcare provider.

Floating for PTSD…

Post traumatic stress disorder is a serious condition that is not only present in soldiers but can be experienced by anyone, caused by single or repeated exposure to traumatic events. Floatation has been reported to assist in treatment and recovery of PTSD, due to its ability to suppress the functioning of the sympathetic nervous system which produces the ‘fight or flight’ response. It also activates the parasympathetic nervous system which is responsible for relaxation and healing. Users commonly experience physical responses like a decrease in muscle tension, blood pressure and stress hormones, while also increasing endorphins. Other positive effects include an increased stress resistance, improved quality of sleep patterns, energy levels and a greater sense of wellness and quality of life.
