Why you are NOT crazy for going cold!

The cold is uncomfortable, so typically people would question why anyone would intentionally want to expose themselves to extreme cold?

Coldwater emersion stresses the body. Most of us associate stress as primarily being negative but implemented in the right way. This method offers an alternative from the negative 'distress' that can result from inadequate sleep, emotional stress and rumination, poor gut health etc.

Instead, this 'good stress' serves to stress the body in a hormetic manner which triggers a cellular response in the body resulting in healing and resilience, ultimately leading to longevity.

Research has found strong links between frequent exposure to cold and several different health benefits, including increased metabolism, reduced muscle soreness and recovery time, improved sleep quality, cognitive focus and immune response.

Additionally, cold water emersion is a great way to learn how to chill out in stressful situations. The ice bath is one of the best places to practice and reinforce how you react in uncomfortable circumstances. You can change your immediate state from panic and hysteria to being in control - the choice is yours.

There are ways to make the plunge more comfortable. By utilising breath and mindset and exposure to the cold, you can consciously influence your own body and remain warm from the inside out.

So maybe it's time to get more comfortable with being uncomfortable. Why not challenge yourself?  Take the plunge into our ice bath, and you might surprise yourself with how invigorated you will feel from this experience!
